the magic of coconut oil

A simple oil, over looked for years has now stepped into the spot light. Once only thought for cooking can now be used on every part of your body including your mouth.  Coconut oil. Coconut, which is not a seed or a nut but a drupe, is loaded with goods for the body. Not only does it contain fatty acids that help burn fat but it also contains medicinal properties. When using coconut oil for the body it is important to get extra vergin cold pressed coconut oil.

Because coconut oil is naturally antibacterial, antifungal, and moisturizing, many people including myself use it as a moisturizing face wash. Start by rubbing an appropriate amount into your skin and then follow by using your favorite face wash or scrub.

Coconut oil is great for your mouth and teeth. Coconut oil is a quick healer, knocking out any bacteria in its path. It also whitens your teeth quickly. For those serious about teeth whitening it is suggested to swish around a spoonful in your mouth for 10 to 20 minutes. I prefer to just swish for about a minute or two then proceed to brush. Not only is it a healer and whitener but it also said to be a breath eliminator.

Coconut oil is a great moisturizer for your body. On days you are feeling dry or when the crisp winter air rolls around use coconut oil to bring back moister to your skin. It is important to recognize that coconut oil is not greasy, it is hydrating!

Coconut oil is the only thing I need when it comes to bathing. Not only does it moisturize and clean your skin but it also the best shaving cream. Coconut oil is a two in one deal, you get super clean and you don't have to use lotion when getting out of the shower because the coconut oil locks in all the hydration your skin needs.

Coconut oil is also a wonderful deep conditioner. It moisturizes and helps prevent breakage. Rub coconut oil through your hair and pin it up for an hour or over night. When it comes time to wash it, shampoo twice to ensure that hair doesn't come out looking oily.  This is probably one of my favorite ways to use coconut oil. After one wash you can see and feel the difference.

Its wonderful how natural remedies are coming from the cooking pantry. I'm happy to see people finding solutions to problems using natural products other than man made animal tested products. If anyone has any skin/hair/body remedies they use, please share! I'm always down to learn about another secret remedy!
